Y no pasa nada. Someone comments on your post, or asks for information, or comes in from an ad. You write to them. And nothing happens. When I review the first message as an IB that someone with this problem sends, I almost always find the same thing: it isn't a message, it's an ad with a greeting.

And the uncomfortable part is that the IB can't see it, because the three mistakes behind it look like the exact opposite: they look like efficiency.

Before you look at your message, look at what the other person sees: a number they don't have saved, a long paragraph and a blue link. They haven't read anything yet and they've already decided what you are: someone who wants to sell them something. From there, anything you say is read with that label on.

The first message doesn't compete with other IBs. It competes with silence, which costs the lead nothing.

Los tres erroresThe three mistakes

1. El enlace en el primer mensaje1. The link in the first message

It feels efficient: I'll send the link and they can register. But a link from a stranger doesn't get opened, it gets ignored. Worse: it turns your message into spam in the eyes of the person receiving it. The link isn't lost by not sending it today; it's lost by sending it too early.

2. Más de tres frases2. More than three sentences

You want to explain who you are, what you do, how you work and why you're different. All at once, in the first message. The lead sees a block of text and does what we all do with a block of text from a stranger: leaves it for later, and later never comes.

3. La oferta antes de la pregunta3. The offer before the question

I have a free group, I can guide you, open your account and I'll help you. All of that may be true, but it arrives before you know who the person is, what they're looking for and whether working with them makes sense for you. An offer to someone you don't know is an offer to nobody.

La regla que resume las tresThe rule that sums up all three

In the academy the first message has three rules, and I can say them here because they aren't the method, they're the minimum: under three sentences, no link, no offer. And a fourth that orders the other three: always end with a question. The goal of the first message is a reply, not a client.

When you measure it that way, everything changes. A message that gets a reply worked, even with no sign-up. A message with a link that gets silence failed, even if it felt complete.

Por qué cuesta tanto no venderWhy not selling is so hard

The fear is concrete: if I don't send the link now, I lose the opportunity. But think about how many links sent in a first message ended in an active account. Count them. In the portfolios I review, almost none.

The opportunity isn't in the link. It's in the second reply, once you know who you're talking to. That's where the link makes sense, because the right person is asking for it at the right moment. Selling before asking isn't speed: it's losing the lead faster.

Lo que puedes hacer hoyWhat you can do today

Open your last ten first messages. In each one, count three things: does it have a link? Does it have more than three sentences? Does it offer something before asking? Add it up. If the total is over ten, you already know why nobody replies, and it's not your content or your broker.

This week, write every first message with a single rule: one sentence about what that person did, one question, zero links. And note how many reply. That number is the one that matters.

And before the message comes another problem, which is where those people come from. I wrote about that in Why your community isn't growing even though you post every day.

El primer mensaje: contacto, no venta — la Etapa 1 de la academiaThe first message: contact, not a sale — Stage 1 of the academy

In IB ACADEMY, Stage 1 starts with this: where your leads come from, what to say in the first message and what to leave out, the two diagnostic questions and the six objections you'll always hear. And the first role play scenario is exactly this one: I'm the lead who doesn't know you, and we practise until the reply comes.
